Favorite book and why: I am not sure that I have a favorite book anymore, but I enjoy reading books about history and politics, especially about the civil war era.
Favorite movie and why: My favorite movie may be The Simpsons Movie. I love The Simpsons, and have watched the entire series through each year I have been in college.
Why are you studying your chosen major(s) and minor(s)? (Tell us why you chose this major(s)/minor(s): My career interests have been set for a very long time; I am interested in becoming a city planner. My goal in my undergrad career was to pick majors that would give me a broad base of knowledge that I could use going forward. I had planned on majoring in political science since taking AP US Government and Politics during my sophomore year of high school. I was very interested in the political processes at local to international levels. By my senior year in high school, I had decided that I was also very interested in geography, however I did not declare it as a second major until the spring semester of my second year in college.
What are some of the best/most interesting classes you’ve taken? What are your suggestions for new/other majors? Also, why should someone in another major chose your major?: My geography courses at UNL were always my most engaging and interesting. Cultural Geography with Dr. Buller was my favorite; through this class I was challenged to think in new ways, and I discovered fascinating research areas that I had not been exposed to previously. Another favorite class of mine was Historical Geography of the Great Plains with Dr. Husa. I would recommend UNL geography to everyone. Geography is such a broad subject, it has an area of interest for anyone. I can also not speak highly enough of the faculty for UNL geography, they go out of their way to create an inclusive learning environment, and they really care about their students.
Tell us about your study abroad/internship/extra-curricular experiences. Talk about anything you’ve been involved with since your time at UNL, why you did these particular experiences, and why other majors should do it.: One experience that really stood out to me was my internship with the Nebraska Recycling Council as their ArcGIS and Data Management Intern. It was rewarding to be able to help serve a non-profit group in achieving their sustainability goals. I have also been a member of the UNL Swimming club for parts of my college career. Recently, I was initiated into the Alpha Phi chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the UNL chapter of the international geographical honor society.
What are you post-graduation plans? I will be continuing my education at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln after my graduation. I am beginning my Master of Community and Regional Planning program in Fall 2025.
