Major/Minor: My majors include Political Science, Russian and Global Studies
Hometown: Lincoln, Nebraska
Year at UNL: Sophmore
Why Global Studies? I chose Global Studies because I have always been interested in how cultures interact on an international scale. My studies have helped me understand and connect the complex political climates and cultures of the world. I have a wide range of interest and Global Studies encompasses them all. My Global Studies classes have been my favorite and most engaging classes I have been in. International Relations GLST 160 taught by Courtney Hillebrecht has been my favorite class I have been in to date. I was worried about my Global Studies major until I took this class, but everything clicked for me in International Relations . International Relations helped me understand different political climates, theories and how to interact with them. My advice to any Global Studies major is to be engaged.
Research and study abroad are a must in Global Studies! So get involved!
Go talk to your professor and advisor, raise your hand in class to ask questions, and most importantly find your passion in Global Studies.
Tell us about your study abroad/internship experience. Studying in Russia was an experience of a lifetime! Every single thought and preconceived notion I had about Russia was shattered. It is a beautiful country with kind, warm people. I was there only for a month and can not wait to go back. I only took language classes, but they have helped me in so many ways. I have a better understanding of the culture and language. I studied in a smaller city, Perm, which really allowed me to grasp the everyday life of Russians. Visiting Moscow was my favorite part of the trip; I was amazed by how beautiful the city was. I imagined Moscow being a very cold and serious. Instead, It was colorful and bursting with life. The architecture was unbelievable. No one could ever be bored there are a million different things to do such as visiting museums, operas, ballets, different historical sites and the list goes on! I met some amazing people in Russia, friends that will last a lifetime. One hopefully is visiting e this fall! I have great memories from my study abroad experience in Russian and can not wait to go back!
What are you post-graduation plans? At this moment, I am not sure if I want to enter law school or go to a graduate school. I know I will continue my education! My dream career would be working for Oxfam on an international scale or working for a company as a consultant or mediator. I want to work with Russia, also to help improve our political relations through culture exchanges!
I have such a love for culture and history, and Global Studies is the perfect fit for me!
