Why Global Studies?
I majored in Global Studies because I've always been interested in international relations. Understanding why the world is the way it is requires knowledge of history, politics, and other cultures. Global Studies is a great major because it is interdisciplinary, and allows students to choose classes from many fields to create a broader understanding of the problems people around the world are facing.

The most challenging and rewarding class I have taken so far has been History of Germany: 1914-Present (HIST328) taught by Dr. Gerald Steinacher. Learning about the different ways Germany has rebuilt itself after conflict, especially comparing the different paths East and West Germany took after World War II, was fascinating. I'm also really enjoying Insurgency, Guerrilla Warfare and Terrorism (POLS479) right now with Dr. Tyler White.

My advice to any Global Studies major is to start thinking about the future now. Create a detailed four year plan, scout out internship and study abroad opportunities. Challenge yourself! Your time in college will go by in the blink of an eye, be prepared to seize opportunities when they present themselves.

I haven't studied abroad yet, but have lived abroad before. Most recently, I spent three months in Germany. I attended a language camp run by the Goethe institute in Bonn, where I got to meet people from all over the world. I also visited St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Tallinn, and the Maginot line (One of my lifetime goals!) I'm planning to make it back to Germany soon to improve my language skills.

My ideal career would be one where I can use my research and writing skills to support an organization dedicated to promoting international peace and security.
