I chose to major in Global Studies because I enjoy learning about the history, culture and language of countries around the world, and this major makes it so easy to do.
Some of the most interesting classes I've taken would be Introduction to Religion, Geography of World Regions, and International Relations.
I would suggest to new students to take more than one language. While challenging, the cultural and language differences and similarities would amaze you.
In the summer of 2014, I was selected for an Army ROTC internship in Montenegro, where my team and I went to train with the Montenegran Army, in order to facilitate their English speaking ability, in hopes of accelerating their application into NATO. While it was a training environment, we had plenty of down time to explore the cities and Montenegrin culture. My team visited 4 or 5 different cities in the country, and conducted numerous educational training exercises.
Last summer (2015) I studied abroad in Berlin, Germany with the UNL language program, which placed us with a German host family and enrolled us at the Deutsch in Deutschland Language Institute. With UNL, we attended a German play every week, and through DiD we had the opportunity to go on weekend trips to places such as Leipzig, the Spreewald, and Potsdam. Also, since we only had classes until noon, we had plenty of opportunities to explore Berlin on our own, and visit sites such as Museum Island, the Berlin Cathedral, and the Fernsehturm.
After I graduate, I plan to commission into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, and eventually work as an Army Foreign Areas Officer
