Why Global Studies? I chose Global Studies after previously being Business Admiration then switching to International Business. Global Studies allowed me to take classes I found interesting like history and political science. In addition I already made a dent in the language requirements due to my five years of French in high school. The major was flexible enough that I’m able to double major with French and at the moment only require eighteen more credits to graduate. Some classes I found absolutely interesting were non-western Politics (POLS 272) and History of World War one and two, East Asia. These classes gave me both the background and understanding of different countries. They also gave me the tools to see the consequences of past wars and present decisions. I love the Global Studies major because it encourages students to learn about other cultures and to ask harder questions instead of blindly accepting something.
International Experience and Long-Term Goals: My whole family with the exception of my younger brother was born and raised in Jamaica. We tend to visit them every other year just to reconnect with our culture and to appreciate all the opportunities living in the U.S. has given us. After graduating I hope to work for the state, become the liaison for foreign companies aiming to set up braches in new countries. My hope is to preserve the culture while introducing new or just in any position that allows me to work abroad. The idea of helping to find compromises between cultures as they grow and change has always interested me.
