Name: Victoria Wiebe
Majors: Political Science and Global Studies; Minor in Business
Hometown: Lincoln, NE
Year at UNL: Junior

Favorite book and why: The Poisonwood Bible. I love The Poisonwood Bible because it is obvious that Barbara Kingsolver did extensive research on the history of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The story was really fascinating in the historical sense, as well as in the way that it looked at family relations realistically.
Favorite dish/food and why: Ice-cream because wherever you are, it is a comfort food.

Why Global Studies: I like global studies because it allows me to take many different types of classes, including history and political science, which also interest me. It allows me to have the flexibility to study abroad and graduate within four years, which is important to me!

Study Abroad Experience: I am currently studying abroad in Meknes, Morocco with ISA. This program is very focused on cultural activities and excursions around the country. We started in Casablanca for a couple of days, then traveled to Marrakech and the Ouzoud Falls. Later in the semester we will be going to Fez, Rabat, Tangier, and Ifrane. My main classes are intensive Arabic, which I take ten hours a week, along with Islamic society and Politics, and Migration and Transnationalism. So far, my favorite activity has been going to the Medina in Meknes and bargaining. In the market and all around the city, there are juice and pastry shops where you can get freshly squeezed juice and fresh French pastries for really low prices. The cultural sights have been very impactful as well, such as seeing different mosques and schools. We typically have classes for only a few hours a day, and then have free time to shop and explore our new hometown!

Post-graduation plans: I plan to take several years after I graduate to either travel or work for a local non-profit organization. Following that, I hope to either go to graduate school for political science or economics and begin to work for the government in some capacity to hopefully influence policy related to refugees and recent immigrants.
