Why Global Studies?
Simply put, the world is fascinating and I'd like to learn everything about it. Alas, until I find the crystal skull from Indiana Jones I don't think I'll be able to become the expert I'd like to be. I chose Global Studies because of the it's diverse options that allow students to focus on what they are passionate about. I'm passionate about culture, politics, human rights, gender equality, and so much more. By choosing such an interdisciplinary program I have the ability to become the expert I want to be. My advice to new Global Studies majors is to learn outside of the classroom. Read the newspaper, join clubs/organizations that match what you're most passionate about in your studies, and surround yourself with people who challenge you. Our world is ever changing, and a large part of being prepared upon graduation is to never stop learning.

Study Abroad: I'm currently living in Edinburgh, Scotland (Auld Reekie) attending the University of Edinburgh Napier. To any Harry Potter fans out there, yes, it is like living in Harry Potter World. I've walked the real life version of Diagon Alley, climbed up the castle Hogwarts was modled after, and written at the same table J.K. Rowling did. My favorite place to visit so far has been the Highlands, if you're into the outdoors this is the ultimate place for you, and often times famous figures have been through the same parts!

What are you post-graduation plans?
My tentative plan following graduation is to apply for the Peace Corps then go into grad school! I hope to someday get a position within the US State Department as a Foreign Service Officer or within a governmental agency focusing on international aide, development, or relations.
