Favorite book and why: Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. When I first read this, it was the first coming-of-age book that talked about serious issues that were not focused on in mainstream media.

Favorite movie and why: The Intouchables. This is a French movie is inspired by a true story of an unlikely friendship of a caregiver and a quadriplegic man. The two men are from different walks of life and the movie shows the lifestyles of people in contrasting social classes in France.

Why Global Studies?
I chose to major in Global Studies because it allows me to learn about a diverse amount of information about international affairs. With the knowledge I acquire from this degree, I can apply it to different job positions. The most interesting class I have taken so far would be International Relations (POLS 160) because it ties in current events with what the class' textbook. What I recommend what new Global Studies students do is to talk with your advisor or professors about any programs that can benefit you in your major. Studying abroad can be extremely valuable, especially when you are an undergraduate, and your professors or advisors can help you choose the best options for you regarding that.

Study Abroad Experience:
In high school, I traveled to France to improve my knowledge in the French language. Not only did this trip allow me to practice speaking French every day, I was also able to immerse myself in the French culture, which was a wonderful experience. Currently, I am applying for the Critical Language Scholarship in hopes of traveling to Tanzania to learn Swahili. In the future, I hope to work on developmental issues in Sub-Saharan Africa or possibly intern at organizations that specialize in community development.
