STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Maria Hopkins

Name: Maria Hopkins
Major/Minor: My major is Global Studies with a focus on Africa and Human Rights. My minor is Entrepreneurship.
Hometown: I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Year: Junior

Favorite book: My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I read it growing up and found it easy to identify with the characters.

Favorite movie: I always enjoy V for Vendetta. It is well made, has a lot of action, and will probably always be relevant.

Why Global Studies?
I chose Global Studies because I am interested in either being positioned abroad or having a career that includes international travel. After I decided against the major I chose in high school, I found that the Global Studies program is extremely flexible and would allow me to focus on the regions that I find most interesting. The classes are stimulating and always present new information. I really enjoyed the International Human Rights class I took last summer.

Education Abroad:
I plan to study abroad this summer. I am applying for a program in Senegal that offers an intensive French course. My goal is to become fluent in as many languages as possible.

Post-graduation plans: I am looking for positions with non-profit organizations or government.
