Favorite Book and Why: This is too hard to choose! This summer I read The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North, which I really enjoyed. It explores how technology and conflict interact with each other, as well as how actions can change the course of history. It is also written beautifully! Right now I am reading The Dark Side by Jane Mayer, which talks about how the war on terror has impacted our American ideals. I also highly recommend the Magicians, if you want more of a light read.

Favorite Movie and Why: I have always loved the movie adaptation of the Book Thief, because it is both sad and happy at the same time. It is a good story about human resiliency and humanity.

Why Global Studies? I chose global studies as a major because it is multi-disciplinary and flexible, which enables me to explore my interests and still have it count towards my major! Two of my favorite classes I have taken are Writing and Briefing for the NSE and Problems in International Relations. My advice for new global studies majors is not to shy away from experiences like in depth research projects because they are some of the most valuable experiences you will have in college, and not to be afraid to just apply for something if you want it! In sum, don't limit yourself because you will be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Study Abroad: This summer I studied abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia with the School of Russian and Asian studies. It was an intensive Russian language program, so I was in language class for almost 5 hours every day! Being immersed in the language really helped my acquisition, especially with the practical Russian used in everyday life. I was also able to visit Moscow and Novgorod during my 8 week experience. St. Petersburg is by far the most beautiful city I have ever been to, and learning about Russian politics during such a turbulent time between our two countries was a truly enriching experience which has already had impacts on my future trajectory.

Post Graduation Plans: My ultimate career goal is to be either a Foreign Service Officer in the political track with Department of State, or a political analyst for the CIA.
