Favorite book and why: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote - In Cold Blood is a nonfiction true crime novel that, at the time of its publishing, was considered a pioneering style of investigative writing. It details the murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas. I especially like how Capote analyzes the perpetrators and victims in different sections allowing for a deeper analysis into why and how the crime was committed. I think the entire practice of true crime writing is extremely interesting and I would jump at the chance to be able to research and write something like In Cold Blood.
Favorite Movie and why: Goodfellas - Goodfellas depicts the life of Henry Hill and his luxurious life in organized crime until paranoia and fear cause its collapse. The movie stands out to me because it engages its audience throughout its run and has incredible long shots that meander through different sets when introducing new characters.
Why Global Studies?
I chose global studies as a second major for many reasons. History and Global Studies connect well together. History is important in understanding the historical context of current trends and issues while Global Studies connects these issues and the different roles entities play in the global system. Global Studies also exposes students to the interconnectedness of the world and how actors coexist. Some of the most interesting classes I have taken covered foreign policy and explained the United States’ role in the international realm.
Study Abroad Plans: This summer, I am planning on studying abroad in Rome. I am most looking forward to visiting the places I have studied about like the Colosseum and other visible remnants of the Roman Empire.
Post-Graduation Plans: After graduation, I am planning on attending law school in either International or Intellectual Property law.
