The University of Nebraska (NU) System is unifying (i.e., migrating) University and Microsoft accounts for UNL, UNO, UNK, and NU. The project, it is designed to enhance collaboration and security (https://nebraska.edu/offices-policies/its/future-ready).

Over the course of the summer, ITS has upgraded all of our classroom computers to Windows 11 and migrated the computer as well. Going forward, you will need to use your NUID@nebraska username to log onto the classroom computer. You will continue to use your UNL email account to access any content, websites, or applications (e.g., logging into Microsoft or Zoom) until you are notified that you have been migrated.

A near-term concern that has been identified are links to OneDrive or SharePoint that are within Canvas. Your course within Canvas will be listed on a dashboard that allows you to view the details of the links that will be broken. Faculty or staff can view this customized dashboard at: https://go.unl.edu/canvasmicrosoftlinks. Please note that if you access this link off-campus, your computer needs to have the NU VPN software active.

This link will only work for the primary faculty or staff instructor listed for the course. It will take you to a Tableau workbook only available to faculty and staff.

You have three options for updating your Canvas courses to prevent issues:
1. Delete old links that are no longer needed.
2. Instead of using the SharePoint/OneDrive link, place the document in Canvas as a File, which can be done before the transition. If you are uploading files to Canvas or using external links to internet sites for your course materials, those links should be fine,
3. Post migration, you will be able to resume sharing links from the new SharePoint/Teams locations in Canvas.
For (C) there is a nuance to consider in that the link breaks when the creator of that link has their account migrated. If that is you as an instructor, you will be informed 30 days in advance as to the day of your account’s migration. If the creator of the link is someone else, you may need to reach out to the person to know the day on which the link needs to be reconstructed—and that person will have to recreate the link. Alternatively, you could move that document to your own account prior to migration, and then you will be in control of the link. In addition, be aware that links created by graduate students will be migrated at the very end of the process, in December 2026, which is on a different time period than faculty/staff accounts within a department.

For questions or guidance on the above options and the migration, you can reach out to support@nebraska.edu.
