Lisa Greif has joined the School of Natural Resources and will serve as office associate. Her first day was Jan. 2.
Half of Greif's appointment is assigned to the Nebraska Maps & More Store, 30 percent to the Conservation and Survey Division and the remaining 20 percent to general SNR support.
"The School of Natural Resources seems like a vibrant and interesting place to work," Greif said. "I'm amazed by the variety of projects and research taking place here. Everyone I've met in Hardin Hall thus far has been very nice and welcoming."
Greif grew up in Lincoln and recently returned to her hometown after living in Fort Collins, Colo. for five years. Having worked in the book and retail industries, Greif said she's looking forward to switching to a more laid-back office atmosphere.
"Plus I'm super excited about the prospect of not working another Christmas in retail," she said. "I'm really, really happy about that."
In her free time, she enjoys reading, running, trying out news recipes and spending time with family, friends and her cat Alyosha.
Additionally, she likes to make travel plans and most recently drove up the Pacific Coast Highway last summer.
"That was a beautiful drive," she said. "I highly recommend it."
Her ideal future adventures include visiting Costa Rica and a road trip across the United States in a camper.
"Now that I actually live in Lincoln, I can finally use my vacation time to travel somewhere besides here," she said.
In the meantime, SNR faculty, staff and students can find Greif in the Nebraska Maps & More Store on the first floor of Hardin Hall, learning the tricks of the trade.
"I hope to become proficient at all of the basics of my job," she said. "I have great teachers in Jacki Loomis and Bernice Goemann. Together they have an overwhelming breadth of knowledge and if I gain a fraction of it in the next few months, I'll count that as a success."
