"Ecogenomic Approaches to Understanding Virus Ecology Across the World's Oceans," will be presented by Steven Wilhelm of the University of Tennessee at 3 p.m., Jan. 22 in Beadle Center E103. The seminar is free and open to the public.
Viruses are considered the most abundant biological elements on Earth. While we have made great strides in understanding the genetic diversity of viruses infecting a broad spectrum of marine bacteria, cyanobacteria and algae, we remain limited in our understanding of their ecology and function. Using illustrations from nearly two decades of marine oceanographic research, this presentation will address the abundance and function of marine viruses using tools ranging from molecular biology to global scale mathematical models.
The Beadle Center is located at 1901 Vine Street. The complete schedule of seminars may be found at http://biotech.unl.edu/.
