The Holling Family Award Program for Teaching Excellence has recognized two SNR faculty members and two teaching assistants for their exceptional teaching.

Dave Wedin, professor of plant and ecosystem ecology, received a Senior Faculty Teaching Award. Amy Burgin, assistant professor and aquatic ecologist, received a Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. Graduate students Jeff Hartman and Katherine Lawry received Teaching Assistant Excellence Awards.

All recipients are in SNR's applied ecology group.

"The applied ecology group has always had a deep commitment to teaching," said Larkin Powell, professor and applied ecology group leader. "It is wonderful to see such a strong presence from our faculty and graduate student TAs in the 2015 recipient list for this award. They join seven other applied ecology teaching faculty in SNR who have received a Holling Family award previously. It's clear that students in academic programs in SNR are receiving an education from faculty who pause to think about the quality and impact of their courses."

The recipients will be presented with their awards at a banquet at 4 p.m., March 3 in the Nebraska East Union. It is open to all faculty, staff and students. No RSVP is required.

The Holling Family Award Program for Teaching Excellence was made possible by a gift from the Holling family to honor their pioneer parents. John Holling was a 1912 electrical engineering graduate of UNL and his brother, Gustave Holling, attended the College of Agriculture before farming the family's land in the Wood River Area.
