Andrei Snyman, doctoral student, has been awarded a fellowship from the Milton E. Mohr Awards Program, which recognizes outstanding students in the sciences of biotechnology and engineering based on their academic performance and potential for accomplishments in their specific field.

"The money will go toward paying university fees for my last remaining semesters at UNL," Snyman said.

Snyman is a native South African whose research in Botswana focuses on studying the population dynamics of large carnivores like lions, leopards, spotted-and brown hyenas and African wild dogs. His research efforts have resulted in the recovery and steady growth of the resident lion population.

Mohr was described in his lifetime as an "...engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, corporate leader" and was instrumental in providing key leadership to young adults. In 1938 he graduated, highest in his class from UNL with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering, and in 1959 UNL awarded him an honorary doctorate of engineering.

The Milton E. Mohr Scholarship and Fellowship Awards Program was established in 1989 for students in the College of Engineering or Biotechnology degree programs. The scholarships and fellowships are made possible through an endowment to the University Foundation.
