Although precipitation has increased during the winter 2015-16, there is still a huge water supply deficit in California. The drought has caused considerable economic losses in the agricultural sector, and those losses are likely to continue into 2016 and probably longer.
In this seminar, information on California agriculture, water supply and demand, long-term precipitation trends and water-related implications to agriculture will be presented. The adoption of scientifically based irrigation management and more efficient irrigation system management as well as cropping patterns and changes in irrigation methods have impacted on the drought will be also discussed.
Finally, some information on efforts by the State and Universities to help farmers adapt to the drought will be presented.
