Archie and his fossil friends at the University of Nebraska State Museum at Morrill Hall, 645 N. 14th St., are staying up late to explore science and natural history topics through hands-on activities.

Archie’s Late Night Party, an all-ages event, is 6 to 9 p.m. June 13 at the museum. It will feature activities related to astronomy, entomology, zoology and more. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas.

The event again includes an after-party. Visitors are encouraged to head to the top of the Stadium Drive Parking Garage for special telescope activities at the Student Observatory from 9 to 10 p.m. Museum members also can take advantage of the Member’s Lounge, with refreshments and an exclusive astronomy-themed activity, from 6 to 8 p.m.

At the party, families will learn more about nocturnal animals and examine the night sky. Activities include lessons on nature’s silent hunter and blinking messages made by fireflies; Mueller Planetarium fulldome shows; and constellation identification.

The Dairy Store will offer the museum’s signature Mammoth Dig ice cream flavor for purchase.

The event costs regular museum admission, with museum members admitted free. For ticket and event information, click here or call 402-472-2637.

Participating partners include the Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center; Pioneers Park Nature Center; Primrose School; and university organizations, including the Department of Entomology, Student Observatory, Dairy Store, Neuroimaging for Language Literacy and Learning Lab, Software Engineering Research and Empirical Studies Lab, Glowacka Lab and Master Gardeners.
