Fashion and art come together at the Sheldon Museum of Art for a fashion contest in celebration of the new exhibition, "The Geometric Unconscious: A Century of Abstraction." The reception is 5 to 7 p.m. today during Sheldon's First Friday reception.

The public is welcome to wear clothing inspired by geometric abstraction. Judges from the UNL Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design will circulate through the crowd from 5 to 6 p.m. Finalists will be judged at 6. Winners will be rewarded with prizes, and the grand prize winner will receive an exhibition catalog.

"The Geometric Unconscious: A Century of Abstraction" showcases the broad scope of geometric abstraction artwork in Sheldon's collection. The works in the exhibition span a period of more than 100 years and prompted a rethinking of geometric abstraction with a special interest in the unconscious that feeds this kind of modern art.
