The Mayan calendar predicts the world will end this year — or does it?

Edwin Barnhart, an expert on Mayan culture, will discuss the myth in the lecture "2012: An End of Days?" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room. Admission is free for UNL students (with a valid NCard) and $5 for faculty, staff and the public. The lecture is sponsored by University Program Council.

Barnhart is a renowned Maya scholar who strives to separate fact from fiction. He has two decades of experience in Mesoamerica as an archeologist, explorer and instructor. A fellow of the Explorer’s Club and teacher of National Science Foundation classes, Barnhart uses his experience to educate individuals on Mayan astronomy and sacred geometry.
