Class Attendance Expectations for Spring 2021 Classes

In Fall 2020, no cases of COVID-19 transmission were traced to College of Business classrooms. With the announcement of enhanced COVID-19 testing in the Spring 2021 semester and the continuation of social distancing and face-covering protocols, the College of Business is confident that Spring 2021 in-person classes can be delivered even more safely. Students who are enrolled in any Spring 2021 course with an in-person component are expected to attend in-person at scheduled meeting times. For short-term absences due to illness, quarantine or isolation, instructors will work with students based on individual circumstances to allow completion of work on a remote basis. Students who are ill or in quarantine or isolation will need to notify professors prior to missed classes in order to receive a recording of the missed lectures.

To receive longer-term remote learning accommodations for Spring 2021 classes with an in-person component, most instructors will require students to be approved for a Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) or Academic Flexibility accommodation. Students who have chronic health conditions or disabilities that make them high risk for COVID-19 should contact the Services for Students with Disabilities Office. Students with personal circumstances unrelated to an existing health condition may request an Academic Flexibility accommodation. The Academic Flexibility accommodation process is for students who have special circumstances, such as living arrangements/caregiving responsibilities that put them in regular close contact with individuals with chronic health conditions, or students who are not able to physically return to campus due to visa restrictions. Students who request an Academic Flexibility Accommodation are not automatically approved. These requests are reviewed by Student Advocacy and Support staff and require instructor approval. More information on obtaining an Academic Flexibility Accommodation can be found here.

Students who are not comfortable attending classes in-person but do not qualify for an Academic Flexibility accommodation are encouraged to work with an academic advisor to identify course sections that are offered online or provide flexible attendance options. If these options are not available, students may need to reschedule in-person courses for another term.
