Introduction to Construction Management for non-CM Majors

Beginning in fall 2021, The Durham School will offer an introduction to construction management course for students in other colleges who may be interested in careers in the construction industry. The Durham School in the College of Engineering offers degrees in construction management, construction engineering and architectural engineering.
• Are you going into engineering or architecture but want a better understanding of the construction process?
• Are you going into engineering or architecture but would like to learn how to best collaborate and communicate with construction professionals?
• Are you interested in business and real estate but would like to better understand the costs and schedules of construction projects?
• Are you interested in learning more about the construction management minor offered by The Durham School?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, this class could be a great option. During the semester, this three-hour class will provide a broad overview of the following:
• The construction industry, construction management and stages of a project
• Obtaining work and estimating project costs
• Construction contracts, project delivery methods and construction administration
• Construction operations, job site management and monitoring project performance
• Project planning and scheduling
• Managing quality, safety and project risks

This newly listed course is offered as CNST 498-005 Special Topics and is a true introduction to the construction industry (CNST 101).
