Scholarship essays may seem intimidating, but with a little time and effort, you can write an effective essay to apply for awards to use for your study abroad experience!

• Share something that you have overcome, or how you have learned to work with a weakness or strength that you may possess.
• Stay true to yourself. We want to get to know who you are and why pursuing an international experience is important to you.
• Keep the essay to about 300-500 words.
o With this word count, you have a good amount to clearly convey your ideas.
• Write a first draft to have someone review and give you feedback on (such as a Writing Center staff member, an advisor, friend, etc.), and use that feedback to craft your second draft.
• Utilize the UNL Writing Center to get advice on your writing. This resource is free to use and available during the academic year!
