Civil Rights at UNL - A Quick Guide to Institutional Equity & Compliance

Starting somewhere new can feel like stepping into a city with its own language, landmarks, and lore. At the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, one of the places quietly working behind the scenes to help that city run with integrity is Institutional Equity and Compliance (IEC).

Institutional Equity and Compliance (IEC) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln helps ensure that the campus remains free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct. The office oversees compliance with federal and state laws, including Title IX, and implements the university’s Nondiscrimination Policy. IEC works with students, faculty, and staff to address concerns, provide education, and support a safe and equitable learning environment.

One key component of this work is the Title IX online training, which all students are required to complete. If you have not yet finished the training, please do so as soon as possible.
The training is designed to be practical and relevant. You will learn how to:
• Recognize conduct that may violate university policy
• Access campus resources
• Support peers who may disclose an experience

Completing the training is more than a requirement. It equips you with the knowledge to navigate challenging situations, understand available protections, and contribute to a respectful campus community.
Reporting Options
UNL provides multiple ways to report discrimination, harassment, or sexual misconduct:
• Submitting an online report to Institutional Equity and Compliance via the IEC website
• UNL Report – at the bottom of all UNL pages
• Contacting IEC directly by phone or email
• Contacting UNL Police
You may seek information about your options even if you are unsure about filing a formal complaint.
Supportive Measures
Supportive measures are available whether or not a formal complaint is filed. These individualized services are designed to restore or preserve equal access to education and may include:
• Academic adjustments or extensions
• Modifications to housing or class schedules
• No-contact directives
• Safety planning
• Referrals to counseling or other campus support services
Supportive measures are provided at no cost and are tailored to meet individual needs.
Institutional Equity and Compliance is committed to ensuring that all students have access to clear reporting pathways, responsive processes, and meaningful support. Got questions? Contact us!
