We are thrilled to announce that Joe Morrison, our former Education Specialist, became our Interim Assistant Director. We also welcomed Angela Gonzalez, a former Middle School Summer Program teacher and ETS Club Mentor at Dawes, as our new Education Specialist at North Star, Goodrich, and Dawes.
Joe and Angela have not only worked together as the Education Specialist and Student Mentor at Dawes, they have also collaborated with their work on the University of Nebraska Inter-tribal Exchange, UNITE.
Moving from Education Specialist to Interim Assistant Director of ETS has been a positive experience. Shifting to work behind the scenes, where I focus on budgeting, building reports, and do what I can to provide support for the ETS staff and scholars. Even though my new role keeps me in my office, I like to do the occasional ETS Club visit.

"I am thankful and excited to be working professionally for TRIO. I am looking forward to advocating, serving, and supporting our high school and middle school students that are pursuing their passions past graduation. I am a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I obtained my B.S in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Ethnic Studies. During my time at UNL, I was involved in various culturally based organizations on campus, which led me to find my passion in advocating and supporting students. In my undergraduate career, I worked for TRIO SSS and ETS as a student staff and mentor. As a TRIO alum, I have been able to experience first-hand all the great support and opportunities that these programs have to offer!"

This semester we took 17 students on a campus tour of the University of Nebraska-Omaha and 18 students to Southeast Community College. We also met with UNO's Project Achieve and SCC's Student Support Services (SSS), the college-level TRIO programs that provides free tutoring, printing, individual career support, and more.
11 high school students got to participate in an interactive tour of Sheldon Museum of Art.
43 middle school students got to do a marketing, business, and web design exploration field trip to Firespring. Firespring is a B Corp business that does advertising for non-profits and small businesses.
ETS had weekly after school clubs at Goodrich, Dawes, Mickle, Culler, Park, Lefler, Lincoln High, North Star, and Northeast.
This fall, we had multiple clubs focused on community needs, action, and advocacy. We also had guests from the Nanoscience Department, Engineering Ambassadors, students from the Mexican American Student Association (MASA), and an involved college student panel all from UNL. In addition, speakers from the Asian Community & Cultural Center and Diverse Scholars Co-founders also led activities in ETS club.
Each semester, we have an ACT workshop to prepare students for the ACT and receive a practice book to take home. We held our first prep course this October and will host another in March.
ETS also led two Senior Workshops focused on college applications and scholarships. Early next semester, we will have a workshop dedicated to helping students and families fill out the FAFSA for financial aid.
