Greta Solomon and Claire Bartels at ETS Ice Skating
Goodbye Greta & Claire :(
ETS is saddened to announce that Education Specialists Claire Bartels and Greta Solomon will be leaving ETS this month.
Claire Bartels will be pursuing her Master's Degree in Political Science at UNL. During her nearly four years with ETS, she served at Mickle, Culler, and Dawes middle schools as well as Northeast and North Star high schools. Known for her quick witted humor, compassion, and care for each individual student, she has made a profound impact on our scholars over the years. On top of leading weekly clubs and individual student meetings, Claire had a hand in various other programming. This includes but is not limited to directing the Middle School Summer Program the past three summers, developing and leading ETS Senior Workshops, organizing multiple volunteer opportunities for students and helping build up the ETS Instagram (go follow us @etsatunl !). Her last day will be August 8th.
Greta Solomon will be moving with her partner to the Washington D.C. area in September. Over the past two and a half years, Greta has served at Park, Lefler, and Goodrich Middle Schools as well as at Lincoln High School. During that time, she built strong connections with our students as someone who brought authenticity and kindness to every interaction. To know Greta meant you had a passionate advocate in your corner. In addition to leading club and individual meetings, Greta has contributed greatly to our program. She led the Middle School Summer Coding and Robotics program for the past three years and spent this summer helping students explore new ways to express themselves through her fine arts class in our Middle School Summer program. Among so many other things, Greta was also responsible for organizing countless field trips and activities to expose students to new ideas and opportunities, she ran the ETS website and newsletter, and took point on developing thoughtful and engaging club curriculum.
"It has been one of the greatest privileges of our lives to work with our ETS students. We feel incredibly lucky to have shared these years getting to know and love you. Even though we are leaving ETS, we are here to support you in an any way we can, whether that be a recommendation letter, or anything else you may need. We are so incredibly proud to know each and every one of you." ~Greta & Claire

High School Summer Program Recap
This summer, we had around 40 high school students come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus for a week-long, grade specific, high school summer program. During this program students did ACT Prep, worked on job skills with UNL Career Services to prepare and edit resumes, perform mock interviews, and learn other professional skills. Additionally, students worked with the Cobalt Credit Union and Union Bank & Trust to learn about financial literacy.
Utilizing other campus partners, we did College of Business Workshops and students had the opportunity to pick out an interview outfit in the Career Closet if they wanted. In addition, we toured the College of Nursing, the Global Experiences Office to learn about studying abroad, and visited College of Engineering to learn about the Peter Kiewit Foundation Engineering Academy. Over the week, students learned about a variety of college campus resources including TRIO Student Support Services, and much more.
Thank you to all of our high school students who attended!

Middle School Summer Program Recap
This June we had over 50 middle school students participate in our annual Middle School Summer Program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln city campus. Students started off their day in morning sessions learning about business, different types of colleges, and cultural exploration. Afterwards, students participated in STEM, Arts, and Writing classes, including lunch in the Harper Dining Hall and exploring new opportunities on and off campus.
On campus, we took students to do an engineering activity in the Kiewit Engineering Hall, did several STEM labs in Manter Hall, visited the Great Plains Art Museum, and explored the College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences on East Campus. Off campus, we visited the Kiewit Luminarium in Omaha as well as the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park's Family Aquatic Center in Ashland.

Wisconsin Trip Recap
This year on our annual out-of-state college visit, we took 40 ETS high school students on a charter bus to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We stayed in the dorms at Marquette University, visited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
For fun extracurriculars, we also spent a day at Six Flags in Chicago, an afternoon swimming at Lake Michigan, and a morning playing Whirlyball.
Each summer we pick a new state and visit several colleges on our trip. Stay tuned for next summer's out of state college visit!
