The Nebraska Wheat Board, a state agency working to advance the Nebraska wheat industry and serve Nebraska’s wheat farmers, is seeking an intern interested in agricultural public relations, communication,and education. An intern can expect to learn about Nebraska’s wheat industry and its relationship to Nebraska agriculture as a whole while gaining experience in the areas of event planning, development of educational and promotional materials and communicating with the public and media. Opportunities for in-state travel may be offered. This is a paid internship with the opportunity for course credit (a special project is required). Interns work between 20-40 hours a week in the summer and compensation is $10.00/hr.

Mission: The mission of the Nebraska Wheat Board is to increase both domestic and foreign consumption of
wheat and wheat food products through marketing and research, as well as to help develop and maintain both
domestic and export markets for the Nebraska wheat producer. The Nebraska Wheat Board will accomplish this by investing the wheat check-off in areas of domestic marketing, education, international marketing, policy development, and research.
Duties: The scope of duties includes, but is not limited to the following items:
Research and write a weekly crop report (one-page report compiled from phone interviews and printed
material).
Develop promotional materials.
Maintain social media presence.
Attend in-state Nebraska Wheat Board meetings, as schedule permits.
Staff Nebraska Wheat Board information booths at various trade show events.
Prepare for and staff information booth at the Nebraska FFA Convention, State Fair, and Aksarben Stock
show.
Coordinate events with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Wheat Board Ambassador program.
Prepare and mail informational material as requested by outside entities.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Students applying for this position must be enrolled in an accredited agriculture or journalism program within a U.S. college or university. Applications should have strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with word processing and design software, as well as a solid understanding of social media.
Term: Internships are available during any of the following sessions.
September 1 thru December 31, scheduled 10-20 hours per week. Application due August 1.
January 1 thru May 31, scheduled 10-20 hours per week. Application due December 1.
May 15 thru August 15, scheduled 20-40 hours per week. Application due April 1.
