The OCC is the U.S. government agency that charters, regulates, and supervises national banks to ensure a safe, sound and competitive national banking system that supports the citizens, communities and economy of the U.S. The OCC also supervises federally licensed branches and agencies of foreign banks. We are a division of the U.S. Treasury Department. The majority of the OCC’s employees are bank examiners.
