UNL Information Technology Services is holding a number of events in October to increase security awareness during National Cyber Security Awareness Month. “Cyber Security Thursdays” will feature walk-by security tips and treats, alternating weekly between the city and east campus unions. Other events include a security forum open to faculty and staff to learn about security practices for their projects and applications. “Security Speed Rounds” are fun, one-hour sessions to create awareness around phishing, data classification, wifi security and social media.

“There are two important points we want the campus to know,” says Cheryl O’Dell, security analyst. “First, awareness is the best defense to being more secure. Secondly, the campus community has access to a number of tools and services that we can provide for individuals as well as departments to create levels of security that will protect them and their data.”
