Remedy for shared calendar management problems

Microsoft is issuing a solution to resolve owner/editor access for shared calendars via Windows Outlook clients. Applying this update will resolve the issue for all Windows computers.  The patch will be available for distribution via Microsoft SCCM, the UNL Client Management Tool for the Windows environment, on January 13.

Areas fully supported by ITS will have the patch automatically distributed by SCCM to all staff computers, and all opted-in faculty computers.

Areas that are not supported by ITS but use Microsoft SCCM to manage their computers will have the option to distribute the patch via SCCM.

Areas not supported by ITS and not using SCCM will need to download the patch from Microsoft and follow their internal deployment processes.

A problem ticket was first opened with Microsoft in August and reported via an email to the UNLTECHINFO list, August 26. Users have experienced inability to view shared calendars, or schedule appointments, as well as the Outlook client locking up. The recommended workaround to manage shared calendars was to use the Outlook Web App (OWA).

An Active Directory Group policy was applied to UNL’s environment on September 3. (http://newsroom.unl.edu/announce/unl-techinfo/3528) This temporary fix restored editor/owner permissions for computers joined to the AD.
