University of Nebraska Information Technology Services is beginning the process of moving all data from Box to Microsoft 365 services.
In addition to the benefit of using a storage solution that aligns with Microsoft services currently used by the university, Box is dramatically raising its prices and ending its unlimited storage offering.
After January 2022, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be the university’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tool.
Information Technology Services and Microsoft will provide several opportunities to attend virtual training sessions so everyone will have a chance to get additional familiarity with the Microsoft 365 platform.
The Microsoft 365 services that will replace Box are:
- OneDrive – a secure cloud storage service for private or shared files.
- SharePoint – a secure collaboration service for team files, web pages, and other resources.
- Teams – a secure real-time communication and collaboration service for teams with text and video chat and shared files.
Please note that volunteers will have their Box data deleted four weeks following the migration. This will mean that anything that links to data in Canvas or elsewhere will need to be relinked to the file location in OneDrive.
Box will be decommissioned Dec. 31, 2021.
