Register for Pre-Session Course: Introduction to Plant Identification

Want to catch up or get ahead of your degree requirements, broaden your career skills or explore a new topic? Consider registering for the Spring 2024 Pre-Session January 2–19. Plant and Landscape Systems 496 Introduction to Plant Identification aims to provide the skills necessary to interpret the vast array of morphologies that exist among the second-largest kingdom.

This course will provide students with working knowledge of tools and concepts that are central to understanding the complex structure and diversity of plants. Topics include characteristics of plant groups, specific terminology necessary to recognize the top three plant families in the Great Plains, usage of technical keys, and the ability to communicate with proper vocabulary and photographs.

Who is this course for?
An introductory course for all students with varying backgrounds and majors:

  • Wildlife, biology, or ag students.
  • Students who plan to take plant courses and would like to explore plant terminology beforehand.
  • Students who appreciate being outside and want to learn more about the plants around them.
  • Students who like to grow plants.
