Watering at Lost Rail
Nate Agosta, a junior plant and landscape systems major, hand waters recently-installed Kentucky Bluegrass sod near the clubhouse at Lost Rail Golf Club near Gretna, Nebraska, where he interns. Because the root system is not yet developed and can dry up quickly when exposed to heat, he has to make sure to keep the sod moist.
Agosta is shadowing the club’s superintendent, Ahren Wonderlich, and working with the agronomy team this summer. He has gained a lot of hands-on experience during his internship, like operating a Toro Turf Sprayer with new GPS technology, learning the process of mixing chemicals and when and why to use them, and installing sod and irrigation systems.
In the future, Agosta hopes to become a golf course superintendent.
