The next Agronomy and Horticulture seminar is April 2
Nic McMillan, assistant professor in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and the School of Natural Resources, will present “Beyond Pyric Herbivory: Expanding Heterogeneity-Based Management in Nebraska's Rangelands,” at 11 a.m. CDT April 2 in Keim Hall, Room 150 or streamed live via Zoom at https://go.unl.edu/seminars.
As a rangeland ecologist at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, McMillan will share ongoing research examining how additional non‑fire management options can complement the well‑established role of pyric herbivory — interactions of fire with grazing on grasslands — in promoting heterogeneity across Nebraska’s increasingly fire‑limited rangelands. This work evaluates how these approaches shape forage dynamics, livestock use and conservation outcomes on working landscapes.
