Students in Plant and Landscape Systems 454 and Horticulture 854 Specialty Crop Innovations worked all spring semester to manage their 80-square-foot microfarms in the high-tunnel greenhouse on East Campus. The students harvested their vegetables, herbs, flowers and plant starts and marketed them to faculty and staff at a free, end-of-semester market. Participants were given $25 of fake cash to purchase products such as Thai basil, bok choi, daikon radish, Easter egg radish, green onion, sunflowers, arugula, Swiss chard, marigolds, cilantro, lettuce and broccoli.

The class is taught by Sam Wortman, professor of agronomy and horticulture.
