Amanda Easterly, agronomy graduate student, has been awarded the Al Moseman International Fellowship. Her adviser is P. Stephen Baenziger.
Easterly’s research focus is on the evaluation of hybrid wheat for the Great Plains and to build models to predict theoretical hybrid combinations. With these results, she plans to identify heterotic pools for the future breeding efforts of hybrid wheat. She is also working to develop efficient methods to produce hybrid seed and select parents and hybrids to meet the demands for higher wheat yields under harsher environmental conditions with fewer inputs in the future.
The Moseman Fellowship is awarded to graduate students in the department with interests in international agriculture and world food development. Preference is given to students who are working in plant breeding or genetics. Students must be a U.S. citizen.
