Members of the public interested in learning more about proper tree planting are encouraged to attend “Re-Tree the Family Fun Zone,” a special tree planting event on Oct. 21 at the family fun zone area of Fonner Park, 700 E. Stolley Park Road, Grand Island, Nebraska.
Nebraska Extension Master Gardeners are working with the Nebraska State Fair, the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and the Grand Island Tree Board to plan the event. The project comes after the Nebraska State Fair was awarded a Greener Nebraska Towns grant, providing planning and funding resources to make meaningful landscape improvements for better quality of life.
“Planting trees is one of the easiest ways someone can positively impact their community,” Extension Educator Elizabeth Killinger said. “We hope people in Grand Island and the surrounding areas will join us on Oct. 21 to learn more about the benefits of tree planting.”
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. During this time over 70 trees and shrubs will be planted. Those in attendance will learn about proper tree selection, tree planting and initial tree care. Attendees will also get hands-on tree planting training in the family fun zone.
There is no cost to attend the family-friendly event, and advance registration is not required. For those who are interested in volunteering for the event, visit http://statefairvolunteer.org.
