Michaela Cunningham, an agronomy major, was awarded a 2017 Western Seed Association scholarship at the WSA Banquet in Kansas City on Nov. 9. The WSA scholarships are awarded based on scholarship and an interest in the seed industry.

Cunningham grew up on a farm west of Fullerton, Nebraska. Her mother is an independent agronomist and her father raises corn and soybeans. Both are graduates of Nebraska.

Cunningham was active in her FFA chapter throughout high school and is currently a member of the Agronomy Club, Range Club, Engler Entrepreneurship Program and Campus Crusade for Christ Bible Study.

Cunningham’s strong passion for agriculture led her to major in agronomy. She is also pursuing a minor in the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship program. She plans to start a native grass seed production operation in the spring 2018 and grow the business throughout her time at Nebraska. She also plans to assist her mother with crop scouting and her father with farming.
