The Agronomy Club, a University of Nebraska–Lincoln Department of Agronomy and Horticulture undergraduate club, is hosting Experience Agronomy Day for high school students from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 2 in Plant Sciences Hall, Room 199 on East Campus.
The workshop is intended for high school students with an interest in developing and growing plants. Students are invited to:
- Learn about areas of study in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture
- Learn the basics of insect, disease, plant and seed identification
- Study and observe live plants
- Prepare for the FFA Agronomy contest with an opportunity to learn and ask questions from undergraduate and graduate students
- Learn about specialized options within the major to prepare for a variety of dynamic careers in agronomy
The workshop will begin with a presentation by Aurora Co-Op followed by a session on insect pests and diseases. Lunch will include a question and answer session with University of Nebraska–Lincoln recruitment. The afternoon will begin with the study of live plants and species identification characteristics and conclude with a mini-test similar to the FFA Agronomy contest.
Experience Agronomy Day is free and lunch is provided. Advanced registration is required.
