Nature-based stream restoration for water quality and ecological function across scales

We are facing increasingly complex environmental issues with climate change and land use conversion than ever before, and these are embedded within social, political, and regulatory contexts that can be difficult to navigate. The integration of research, design, and implementation to create resilient solutions for communities is paramount. Many recent frameworks and guidelines have emerged that include core principles, rules, and standards for ecological restoration, ecosystem-based design, and nature-based solutions. We worked with researchers, extension professionals, and practitioners to link stream and watersheds scale efforts with challenges, opportunities, and barriers for success and articulated a set of core principles that underpin successful stream restoration programs. In this talk, I welcome your feedback on this framework with the hope that this effort will amplify and energize the dialogue about how to move the science and practice of stream restoration forward.
