Presentation Abstract
The talk will center around Mr. McLaughlin’s experience working as a civil engineer and transportation planner in the private sector. He will discuss projects he has worked on, the differences between engineering and planning projects, and the roles that civil engineers and planners both have as consultants. He will also give his perspective on skills that engineers should work on as you look to become a consultant in the private sector.

About the Speaker
Mr. Kyle McLaughlin is a regional planner who has experience with transportation, mobility, and corridor planning projects for diverse communities ranging from metropolitan areas to tribal groups. He has completed small area plans, city-wide multimodal plans, 100+ mile trail master plans, complete streets design guides, and countless public engagement efforts. Mr. McLaughlin focuses on developing sustainable, resilient, and equitable plans that improve residents’ quality of life. He is heavily involved in state and federal grants, helping clients find and secure money for transportation projects.
