An Introduction to Land Use Modeling and Urban Economics
Presentation Abstract
The transportation system is strongly linked to land use and built form decisions. This presentation will provide an historical overview of land use modeling and its basis in urban economics. We will discuss both firm and household location choice. A brief summary of the current state of land use models within integrated modeling systems will be provided based on experience working on several of the state-of-the art models
About the Speaker
Dr. Jason Hawkins is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He received his Ph.D. focused on transportation engineering and planning from the University of Toronto. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Calgary. Jason completed postdoctoral work at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on engineering policy and transportation planning. He serves as the research coordinator for the Transportation Research Board Committee on Traveler Behavior and Values and is a Zephyr Foundation board member
