AR Research Study

Hello,

My name is Dr. Logan Perry, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at UNL. I am conducting a study on “Assessing Head-Hand- and Heart-Related Competencies through Augmented-Reality” (IRB project ID: 22345). This study will allow participants interact with a head mounted device called a HoloLens in building a playground for children using core engineering design competencies such as cost, safety, Sustainability, Fun and Time in a bid to understand how students prioritize design criteria in an authentic engineering problem-solving scenario.

I am inviting you to participate in this study. To participate, please note that you must:

1. Be a student at UNL and be registered in at least one credit load course of an undergraduate program.
2. Be in your third or fourth year in the civil engineering department.
3. Be 19 years of age or more as at the date of signing up for this study.

This study will involve a screening survey, a design activity, and an exit interview. The pre-study survey will determine your eligibility to participate in this study. The design activity will involve you redesigning an existing children’s playground using a head-mounted display called a HoloLens, and a follow-up interview will be conducted at the end of the design activity. The initial pre-study survey will take about 2 minutes while the design activity should take not more than 60 minutes and the exit interview should be about 25 minutes. The session will be no more than 90 minutes total.

Your participation in this study is voluntary and you may choose to discontinue at any stage of the study. There will be compensation of $25 for participating in the study, which you will receive in the form of a virtual amazon gift card.
