The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEN) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in September 2025.
The Department is particularly interested in candidates with a teaching and research focus in the broad area of geotechnical engineering. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to: offshore/coastal geotechnics, geotechnical design for sustainability and extreme events, soil/structure interaction, biogeotechnics, environmental geotechnics, synergies of data science, AI and geotechnical engineering, and geosystem resilience. The Department has existing expertise in reliability, structural optimization, recycled materials, marine turbulence, renewable energy, environmental remediation, environmental justice and related areas, with strong programs in data science, robotics and environmental/marine sensing across the College of Engineering. The University supports strong interdisciplinary collaborations between researchers in the College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences, the School for Marine Science and Technology, and the Center for Scientific Computing and Data Science Research (https://www.cscdr.umassd.edu/).
Duties:
The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally
recognized, externally funded research program; implement
inclusive, evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to
ensure the academic success of a diverse student population;
advise undergraduate and graduate (MS & PhD) students;
contribute to university and professional service; foster interdisciplinary collaborations; and actively engage in college and university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have earned bachelor’s and doctorate degrees
in civil engineering or a closely related field at the time of
appointment, be able to teach courses in geotechnical
engineering, and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching
excellence and scholarly research as well as diversity, equity and
inclusion.
