Presentation Title: Nebraska's water quantity and quality
challenges
Abstract: Nebraska is facing a challenge to rehabilitate aging water
infrastructure, address water supply concerns, and improve water
quality. We will discuss how engineers are critical in helping to lead the way for Nebraska to maintain a robust economy and quality of life for its citizens. Nebraska is working to build its largest agricultural water supply project in 80 years, developing secondary water supply sources for major cities, addressing groundwater quality concerns, managing groundwater with robust modeling tools, and deploying investments in data collection to help decision makers allocate resources now and into the future. The future opportunities of water management for Nebraska have never been more exciting and challenging.
About the speaker: Tom Riley is a hydrologist with expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling; irrigation and water supply management and planning; stream flow and water quality assessment; restoration of freshwater and saline wetlands; project budget estimating and management; and design of data collection programs.
