Course Contents: This course explores construction materials through three main themes: fundamentals and behavior, construction material systems and performance, and emerging materials technologies. It examines how materials are composed, how their internal structure influences behavior, and how key properties such as particle packing, characterization, rheology, curing, and maturity. The course also covers major construction material systems, including advanced concretes, asphalt concrete, and geotechnical materials, with attention to deterioration, durability, sustainability, and the use of byproducts. In addition, the course introduces emerging technologies such as nanotechnology, smart materials and sensors, evolution of concrete (from Roman to modern practice) and artificial intelligence applications in construction materials.
