Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences
Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences

From the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center.

Registration is now open for the tenth annual Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences (WoPhyS '18)! We welcome all undergraduate students with research interests in all areas of physical science, with a focus on physics, chemistry, materials science, nanoscience, optics, photonics, astronomy, and applied physics and engineering. WoPhyS '18 will be held Thursday, October 11 - Saturday, October 13, 2018 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

You'll have opportunities to:

  • Present research accomplishments to peers and the academic community
  • Attend scientific talks given by scientists from U.S. universities, national laboratories, and other research institutions
  • Participate in graduate school preparation workshops
  • Interact with students and faculty from other universities
  • Tour facilities and labs in our UNL science departments, including our Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience and Diocles, one of the strongest lasers in the U.S.

This year's conference theme is "Standing Out on the Shoulders of Giants." We will highlight recent research in interdisciplinary materials science through a series of lectures given by leading scientists in physics, chemistry, and engineering fields. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to present their own research during the conference poster session. If you feel you have outstanding results from your research (which does not necessarily need to be related to materials science), you can also ask your faculty mentor to nominate you to present your research in an invited talk. Instructions for nominations can be found online.

Participation in WoPhyS '18 is 100% free! All local expenses, including accommodations in Lincoln's Graduate Hotel, conference registration fee, and all meals, are covered by our sponsors. Travel scholarships are also available upon request for undergraduate students who will present a poster or talk.

Check the WoPhyS '18 site for more updates and to register.
