Job Description
The City of Grand Island is looking for a qualified candidate to fill their Civil Engineer I position. This position participates in evaluating, planning, designing, recommending and coordinating the construction of various Utilities facilities and related engineering activities; and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to the engineering operations of the Utilities Department. Provides engineering support for the Production/Transmission and Distribution divisions of the Utilities Department. Position may have the opportunity for advancement.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level class in the civil engineer series for the Utilities Department. This class is distinguished from the Civil Engineer II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees at this level are not fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit; they provide only functional and technical supervision to technical and maintenance staff.
