Perimeter parking and campus bus service changes made for summer
During the summer, StarTran bus service Route 22 will not serve perimeter parking lots. StarTran bus Route 23 will continue for Innovation Campus.
Perimeter parking permit holders do have additional parking options during this period. Any Perimeter permit will be valid in lot R-1, next to Harper, Schramm, Smith complex or in lot R-3, at 21st and Vine Streets. StarTran bus connections from these parking lots are available at the 14th and Avery Garage and at the corner of 22nd and Vine.
These changes are in effect now and will continue until fall semester begins in August.
New parking permit sales begin – No price increases
New 2016 – 2017 parking permits now can be purchased online at http://parking.unl.edu/
There are no increases in parking permit costs.
Beginning June 1, permits can be purchased in person at the Parking and Transit Services office, 625 Stadium Drive, Suite A.
If you have a parking permit sticker or garage tag and do not plan to use it on the UNL campus through its effective date – you can receive a refund for the unused time period or cancel remaining payments. Permit effective dates are shown on the permit.
To cancel a parking permit:
Return the actual permit to UNL Parking and Transit Services, 625 Stadium Drive, Suite A.
They are doing their job. You get a phone call from Parking and Transit Services telling you that your car lights are on – that is their job. You parked your car in a garage but forgot where it is and they can check access data to locate it.
Student Parking Enforcement Workers have a tough reputation for issuing parking tickets and having cars towed. It is not the full picture.
“Our team spends lots of time checking data bases, reviewing camera footage, working at garages, and trying to help people who park on campus avoid problems” said Bill Manning, Operations Manager. “When they take a corrective step, it is because a rule is being violated.”
Currently there are about 20 workers, all UNL students. They work around classes and through all kinds of weather.
“Our workers are really dedicated. A few days ago, they tracked down the driver of a visiting elementary school bus – so it could be moved to the right area,” Manning said.
Citations are issued for drivers who ignore the rules. Common problems are failure to display a valid permit, parking in an unauthorized area and expired meters. Violators can pay the fine – or appeal. Ignoring multiple tickets can result in the vehicle being impounded.
“There is no bonus for the number of citations. We are following the rules and taking corrective action,” Manning said. “But we do feel good when we can help people on campus.”
