August 15 Deadline Approaching for Nine Month Parking Permit

Nine-month parking permits must be purchased and displayed for academic year 2016-2017 no later than Monday, August 15, 2016.

If you still need to purchase your nine-month permit, faculty and staff options include surface lots and parking garages. Student options include resident, commuter and perimeter permits for lots and parking garages.

Permit costs are the same as last year – no increases. Purchase your nine month parking permit in person at the Parking and Transit Services office, 625 Stadium Drive, Suite A, or online at http://parking.unl.edu/parking.

When purchasing in person, make it easy: Complete your Permit Application Form in advance and bring it with you. The form is available at http://parking.unl.edu/documents/Parking-Permit-Application-Form.pdf

Payment can be made with debit or credit card, cash, check, employee payroll deduction or student consolidated billing. A monthly consolidated billing payment option has been added specifically for graduate students.

Passport Parking and Mobile Pay Application Expands Service on Campus

Popularity of the Passport parking and mobile pay application is growing rapidly. As a result, more parking spaces on both East and Downtown Campuses have been converted to the Passport application. In designated areas users can enter the vehicle’s license plate number into the Passport application to pay for parking, get meter expiration reminders, and add time to their meter from anywhere.

The Passport application has been added to 30 non metered spaces next to the East Campus Activities Building in the Area A/C lot. (This option is available only during the hours of 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.) At the 14th and W lot, meters have been removed and 20 spaces have been converted to only accept the Passport application.

“These changes reflect high usage of the Passport app and growing needs for flexible parking in these areas,” said Bill Manning, Operations Manager.

Suicide prevention signs added to UNL garages

In partnership with the City of Lincoln, suicide prevention signs will be posted in both UNL and the city's downtown parking garages. The goal is to expand awareness of assistance options and resources.

“We have been discussing and evaluating the idea for some time,” said Dan Carpenter, Director Parking and Transit Services. “We brought together parking structure, mental health and campus safety professionals to determine our next steps. We believe these signs offer information in an area where a person might be thinking of committing suicide. We want to interrupt their plan.”

The signs list resources and phone numbers for help, including counseling resources through the UNL Health Center. Signs were provided through the Lancaster County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
